Love at the Chapel Luxury Soy Candle
This candle smells just like the iconic Love Heart Sweets.
A juicy accord of raspberry, peach, grapefruit and vanilla - definitely a new fave at the moment!
The Italian Chapel is a well known landmark in Orkney, a corrugated iron hut which was painted and transformed into a beautiful Chapel by Italian prisoners of war in WW2, to find peace and love in a time of despair.
Lesser known, is the heart emblem inside and the whirlwind love story behind it.
Giuseppe Palumbi was one of the war prisoners and although having a family and wife back in Italy, fell madly in love with an Orcadian girl - Barbara. 4 years later when the war was over, he returned to Italy by duty, and spent his life in heartache.
He said he was ‘leaving his heart in Orkney’ with this emblem in the Chapel, and began including hearts in all of his designs from bedsteads to balconies. He spent his life telling his granddaughter to never make the mistake he had and to always follow your heart.
Although he died with the thought that the chapel was destroyed after the war, it still stands today, and has been visited by his granddaughter, who named her daughter Barbara 💛
This love heart-themed scent seemed so perfectly fitting for this story.
